Dave
Grimsby: Great day and we got to speak to loads of new people. All the best to everyone and a
big well done to everyone in putting the event together. All your hard work paid off. Jill really enjoyed the day too and
the ride in the stunt car was amazing.
Mabel
the MINI: We had a great weekend too! Well done and thanks to everyone- you should be proud of your hard work. It was
good to see you all again and meet even more people! Don't know what was scarier - seeing Russ Swift nearly kill Nick's car
or being in the back of a MINI being driven by an 11yr old!
M.O.S: Bet Nick was nervous with his car I'd be terrified even though he's done it for years! Shame about
the puncture. Hopefully it'll be repairable.
JET: Mark and I had a Great Day , met some really interesting people. Some pic's to follow ,Enjoy
.
AERO JCW: Great show today. Some tasty looking minis. Got plenty of ideas too.

Absolutely fantastic day, great to see those I knew
and greater still to meet those I didn't know, hope you all enjoyed your day as much as me and my grandson, I'll try and post
photos later, I'm sure Deano has plenty though. Looking forward to seeing them all.

Had a great day and hope to go to more events. Today
was our first mini event and we really enjoyed it. Will post photos soon, just waiting for the camera batteries to re-charge.

I had a great day and so did Michael & Jenna.
Was great to catch up with everyone from NMC As for the show, a 3 hour drive was a bit too far for me, but as its once a year
thats fine, the lack of traders has been explained, but I had a good time catching up with friends from ThinkMINI Russ Swift
was fab... the only critisism I have was it just seemed to me like the only people there were the people on club stands etc....
though tbh I didnt see the car park so I could be wrong...I thought it was a good first MINI show.

We had a good day yesterday, again its was a pity
the traders who where supposed to come didn't turn up but a good attempt for a first time. Was good to see everyone and sorry
for not stopping on NMC stand for longer.

We had an awesome weekend at the show well done to
the NMD team for putting on the best show of the year yes it was there 1st show iv worked along side the team and they have
worked very hard to get this sorted not everyone will be happy and alot of companys couldnt make it but we are in hard times
at the moment, I would like to thank everyone who managed to pop over and give there support to us on our stand

Just 2 say i had a good day, with the weather being
just right 4 me. As alway"s it"s nice 2 catch up with people face 2 face.

Those girls were far too skinny! Fake women!
Jase
and I really enjoyed our weekend, coupling yesterday's day with a seaside trip and a bloody great curry on Saturday! Again,
like everyone else, we were disappointed with the turnout of traders, which has been answered. Jase took his birthday money
to spend and didn't manage it! Russ Swift was great, and I didn't think it was bad for a first attempt. I also found some
great inspiration to get Matilda some graphics, so she won't have to be naked for too much longer. The stand would've looked
even better with a Pepper White on (lol) so I should have brought her along! Hopefully next time. See you all soon.

Well here is my summary, I hope any bits that may
be thought of as negative are just taken on as constructive criticism, nothing more, there are lots of positives too !:
Well
first off hats off to those who organised the event, although there were some challenges its probably the first time most
of the people had organised an event, so well done for getting the whole event off the ground and running - I couldn't have
done the things most of the organisers were capable of!
by maxiboy61 » Mon Jun 22, 2009 8:03 pm
I thought the day was great and as discussed you
are never going to please them all.
The point that I would like to make has already been made by Shaker. comments
should really be positive and any negative comments should be just constructive. The thing is if you start all this bitching
that will not help matters. You never know other clubs such as NMC or DMR etc may at some point want to have a crack at a
show at some point.
It is then that you need the MINI community behind you. I thought for a first time the event was
good. a lot of hard work went into the event and so for most people it would be just a hasstle to organise. You have to applaud
anyone for trying and the biggest positive for me was that there were lots of gorgeous MINIs, nice people all enjoying a common
goal - MINIs. - Rich

Thank you for your comments which are appreciated.
We had a great number of problems at the last minute. Double M Catering didnt not tell us that they needed to share a generator
with the bar, which meant a quick site plan change on Friday night with us breaking East Lindsey Health and Safety rules who
did not want us to use grass because of rain. Of course they turned out to be right.
Jason from DMR was stuck out on
his own with the skills test. This should not have happened. It was planned that Jason would be next to Track Star Racing,
but they and five other traders did not turn up and did not notify us. Therefore we had to leave the gaps waiting for their
arrival. However, over the last few months we did give Jason and Adventure Driving Academy a FREE page on the NEW MINI DAY
website and I feel that, I hope, he feels compensated by this. It was never Jasons intention to keep any money from the event
as he is ex-forces I believe.
With regards to the er...... models. We had no idea they were coming until the very last
minute. Paul Waring Photography phoned Lorraine to say he was bringing two models with him and he had an idea which he would
not disclose. Lorraine made it quite clear that it was a family show and that they MUST be suitably dressed. We had decided
to ditch our own NEW MINI DAY Babes months ago. To be honest I hadn't seen them until Chris Rossiter from AC Schnitzer asked
me to arrange for them to do the draw for the Mi2 Alloy Wheels. Did I get a shock, the last time I saw a tan like that it
was on Dale Wintern. The outfits were not suitable for the occassion and that will NOT happen again.
Believe me, putting
on this show was very hard work and many lessons was learnt. I personally only had 4 hours sleep a night for Friday and
Saturday. I tried to be the last to go to bed and the first one up each day.
Before decisions are made about NEW MINI
DAY 2010 there are issues to be resolved. Where, When, How etc., We need to sit back and look at the good and the bad. There
were a few people who turned us over on the day with one "unregistered trader" appearing. This was of serious concern as they
had not submitted a health and safety report, shown evidence of Public Liability Insurance and further more did not pay for a stand. This will be discussed. This situation was highlighted to me by the visiting Health
and Safety Officer from East Lindsey District Council who had a list of all traders attending. Further, some traders abused
the "Free Pass" facility for workers and just gave them away to friends. Suddenly they had less workers than they led us to
believe. We know who these people are also. It is ashame that the dishonesty of a few ruin the whole concept for all.
Regretfully,
part of the deal with Manby and to get a reduced hire charge for the site, which was expensive, was to let them charge for
their own activities. I agree that some were somewhat expensive. Two weeks before the event Manby Motorplex advised that
the Karting would not be available as this was run by East Linsey District Council and they didn't have the staff to run it.
I had emergency talks with ELDC and I agreed at the NEW MINI DAY cost to hire and pay for the Karting. Manby wanted to charge
£15 for 12 minutes Karting. I personally changed that to just £5.00 for 10 minutes and put LMC's Leo on the job. Further,
ELDC wanted the ages limited to 13 to 19 year olds. Some of those 19 year olds hadn't worn very well in my mind. One looked
about 45.
Anyway, to close. We know it wasn't perfect and if I look stressed, well actually I was. Lorraine was in
tears most Saturday night when it constantly rained and Sunday morning and I must thank Rich and Theron for consoling her
in my absence.
The weekend of the 21st June was booked in August 2008 when nothing else was listed. The Grand Prix
had not even been announced at that time. The only event we became aware of during our launch night, which many of you were
at, was Normanby Hall. You may recall we stopped the meeting for a quick brain storming session and it was decided that as
Normanby Hall is mainly Classics and that were aiming at the BMW MINI. Indeed Deano gave his opinion at that meeting and encouraged
that we should carry on regardless.
In total, due to alot of cheating by some traders and abuse of FREE PASSES we made
around just £300 which doesnt even cover the expenses incurred. I must say however, the support from many traders was emence
and very touching. Astel MINI, Palmer Brothers, Lohen, Drivers Eye, Think MINI and Sign My Ride were so kind to us and
supportive that at one point even I was emotional with a lump in my throat, and most of you know me as a Hard B*****D!
So
thanks for your comments, I really mean that. We knew the show would be critisised, but I hope you can see the good in it
also. Regards, Nick

fantastic feedback - thanks Nick - its interesting to see the comments behind the things we saw and its obvious how much effort
you all went to.
Very interesting comments behind the race tracks prices for the events, the dale winton tanned girls
, the abuse on free passes etc. Explains a lot.
As you say there are lessons to be learnt, the important thing is it
wasn't a flop, and it provides great foundations on how to plan for the next event.
I did wonder how much sleep you
all got, surprised you managed to cram 4 hours in, and surprised you're still awake this evening! Make sure you get a well
earned rest !
Adam Randell: Brilliant
weekend, well done Nick and Lorraine. Not forgetting Mick and Wendy either. it all came together really well, sorry I had
to depart early sunday. Some nice pics here guys. love the pic with the old contol tower! looks great.
BARTONIAN:
What a great show!!! Nick, take a well earned rest, you must be shattered!!! You put on a brilliant event
especially considering it's your first attempt ( with many like it to come, hopefully). Everyone involved, you made it into
a "MAJOR MINI EVENT" . Take a bow, you deserve all the praise you receive.
Lammy:
A massive well done to Nick, Lorranie, Mick and Wendy. It was a bloody good show. As ever with a show
like this it was good to meet new people and catch up with old friends.
kcu03cjs: Would
just like to say a big thank you to Nick, Lorranine, Laura, Matt, Mick and Wendy for all your hard work and dedication into
the NMD project /event.
The show and shine competition was great as we were all there franticaly trying to do our
best and at the end of the right person won - totally made for you Boycie, completely deserved. Well done to MINT and Minime
for also getting runners up awards.
The drag at the end of the day was a blast and its no surprise Mr 200.1 bhp beat
us all but I think Lammy was giving us a chance
Bring on NMD next year - I assume there will be one??

would cheat a charity. Thats a bit low that.
MC07PER: Would
also like to add a BIG THANK YOU to all the lads who tirelessly spent Saturday up and down escorting traders and public down
to their rightful places. We could not have done it without you. Also thanks to all that helped clear all the rubbish at the
end of the day, which turned out to be a huge task. And thank you to Batman who spent all day cleaning his car to win that
award, and to then use the inside of his car to ferry rubbish to the skip.
Millie The
MINI: Millie the MINI had a fab time over
the weekend - i've now got two teenagers desperate for minis of their own. Think the driving instructors survived their driving
- just! Thank you to everyone who made us welcome - you're a fab bunch, rain definately didn't stop play
Far2Sly:
Hi all just a quick note to say had a great
weekend, sat night was a bit wet but managed to sit it out and give the performers some support, tent held up to all that
nature could through at me, thankfully the sun came to visit on sun and had a good day, was gutted though that when driving
down to the closer car park after camping it was then i noticed the reserved car parking area for LMC members..!!! Had
a good laugh watching Russ Swift's exploits in such close proximity to Nicks car. Why did LMC not have a visitor table
etc, was hard to figure out who was LMC or who was just drooling over your cars, spoke to one guy for five mins before i realised
my mistake... anyway had a quick chat to Nick before I set off home for a night shift... Hope to see you all somewhere
soon.
Red Sky: Hi everyone at LMC May I first congratulate you all at was the arrival of
a dream the first New MINI Day. I for one have nothing but admiration for all you acheived and please please dont feel
anything but a huge sense of PRIDE. Many had talked of A NEW MINI Day (including us at DMR) but you went out and did it.
I'm sure you have learnt lots of lessons plans are made but life is what happens and I for one hope you have a NMD
in 2010 and the whole MINI community gets behind you YOU DESERVE IT!!!!! Red Sky aka Checkmate DMR
Ian, Chairman - MINI Register: I had a great day at the NEW MINI DAY Event, I had a fantastic
view of Russ Swift from our club stand. Myself and MINI Register will definitely be attending the next one! Well done all
the 'NEW MINI DAY' team for an excellent day!
|
Linsey Frost: Thankyou
for a wonderful day we camped overnight but could have been closer. The field was a bit far away from the main attractions
and the food and drink especially when the rain came. A shame also stands never turned up was hoping to get chrome vents
and such from My Beautiful Mini Stand.
Aussie77: What a great
weekend. Everyone from Kent New Mini had a great time and are really looking forward to next years event. Well done to everyone
involved. |
by Promoter: I have now had the
opportunity to speak with the main Traders at NEW MINI DAY, all of whom have said that they would support another NEW
MINI DAY. The general concensus is that the location was wrong. Whilst the location was always suspect, it was initially
thought that being located near to the organisers home would assist with meetings and initial planning and I am sure that
view was correct in this instance. It was always in the back of our minds that a more central location would be preferable,
but the cost of some locations was simply out of reach. For example; to hire two exhibition halls at the National Agricultural
Centre at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire would cost just over £25,000 for two days. The cheapest venue we have been quoted on
is £16,000 for two days. By comparison, even with a lower than expected turn out, Manby was cheap and the right place for
the initial try out a new show.
We have now concluded that the Fun Fair Rides were not necessary
or indeed the bar as most campers brought their own supplies and people coming for the day, sensibly did not "drink and drive".
Our food stands were over subscribed and the jury is out on the "Live Music". Most have said they would want it retained as
"background entertainment". I do not think the Rally Experience and other experiences are necessary as most complained about
the cost, but believe me, putting on such experiences is not cheap. the Karting on the other hand was a great success. It
only made around £40 after paying for staff and fuel, but those who did the Karting seem to have a great time and it didn't
make a loss, even after I trimmed the price from £15 per ride to £5 per ride.
Now we move onwards and upwards and I can say that I have a site
inspection at a Midlands based venue within the next few weeks. This is no indication that the site is acceptable, or indeed
affordable, but we are persuing options based around the Midlands area. By considering this area, we are offered a more comprehensive
Motorway network with the M1, M5, M6 and M40 all being nearby.
As soon as I have more news I will keep you upto date.
Phil Weedon - Modern MINI Magazine:
Hi Nick,
Congratulations
on the event – I thought on the whole that it went exceptionally well.
Numbers could have been better but it
was the weekend of the British GP and Father’s Day so not ideal…
I firmly believe however that this could
become a firm fixture in the calendar. A couple of provisos I’d recommend:
A new location. Manby Motorplex is
a good venue, but just too out of the way for pretty much everybody. A more central site is needed, (Phil then suggests prime
site locations), all these are more central and easily accessed by the motorway network. They would all allow track/drag strip
time which you could sell on a Run What Yer Brung basis.
Focus it primarily on one day – the weekend stuff is
too ambitious at this stage. By all means have set-up and camping on the Saturday night, but focus efforts on making the Sunday
the best it can be; this will drive attendance to the one day and make it easier for traders to allocate staff/costs.
Better
timing on the day. Try and get the prize-giving stuff done and dusted by 4pm, ie start it at 3.30pm. The day reached a natural
lull by 3pm and many had gone home by the time we did prize-giving
What you have created is a genuinely nice show
with a lovely atmosphere – this now just needs building on and I think it can only get bigger and better from here.
You can count on our support next year, I’d certainly be interested to hear your plans for 2010…
Kind
regards

Hi Nick,
We all thought the event was very well
organised and a great success. On both days we could all see the passion and effort you and your team had put in.
It was great to be a part of it from start to finish.
On the day we sold most of our clothing,
took around 50 peoples details for future marketing and received about 10 decent qualified enquires on cars. So far
we have sold one from the event and we have some more in the pipeline.
I believe that we would be very interested
in next years event and would like to have a sit down with you in the near future to discuss it.
